Company Auditions for the 2018-2019 Season

Monday, August 20
4-6:00 pm

Open Auditions for Senior and Junior Company dancers for the 2018-2019 Season.  These auditions are for intermediate and advanced level dancers who are training for a career in dance, or who are committed students that want more performance experience to round our their training or in preparation for dance programs in higher education.

Audition registration 3-4:00 pm.
Audition fee $30 per dancer.

Female dancers must be en pointe and male dancers should have some basic partnering experience.  Senior Company girls must be at an advanced level of technique, including pointework.  Junior Company must be at a high intermediate level of technique and must be en pointe.  Company dancers have the opportunity to perform in the annual SCBT "The Nutcracker" with live orchestra, as well as be considered for new works by guest choreographers as well as our own award-winning choreographer and Co-Executive Artistic Director Robert Kelley.

Senior Company will start daily classes Tuesday, August 21.  An esteemed guest choreographer will start a new piece on Wednesday, August 22.  Daily rehearsals with this choreographer will continue through the next week (4-8 pm weekdays, 10-6 Saturday, 11-4 Sunday).  Yearly/normal schedule begins after Labor Day: rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday.  Our dancers spend from 5 to 15 hours in rehearsal weekly, on top of their training schedules.  Our graduates have continued on to careers in dance as well as to esteemed dance programs in colleges and universities.  Audition for us and see where your talent and drive can take you under the professional tutelage and guidance of our venerable artistic directors.

The 2018-2019 season marks Robert Kelley and Diane Cypher's 20th anniversary season directing Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre.

Minimum age requirement is 12 years of age, however each dancer will be considered for their attention span, ability and talent.  There is no upper age limit, however this is a pre-professional program which is by its very nature physically demanding, as professional ballet requires.  There is a participation fee for the season, TBA.  Dancers do not need to be students of The Studio, however, the work ethic and commitment required to be a part of Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre are exceptional, and in keeping with the demands of the profession.  This program prepares dancers for a career in the field.  We welcome dancers from other schools to apply if you are looking for the challenges that will prepare you for a career in the professional dance world.
