The Santa Cruz Nutcracker: Clara's Dream

Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre is producing a Nutcracker film!  Enjoy your favorite Santa Cruz tradition, even in these uncertain and uncharted times.  This film will be available for download and/or live stream after Thanksgiving.

Filmed at several locations around Santa Cruz County, the movie will spotlight local landmarks as well as longtime SCBT sponsors.  Our dancers will bring the story of Clara's dream to life with original choreography by Flora Chatwin, composed specifically for each site.  Locations will include The Dream Inn, the Santa Cruz Boardwalk and Carousel, Peacock Tree Farm, Bargetto Winery, Donnelly's Chocolates and Pacific Cookie Company, the Lighthouse on East Cliff Drive, among others.

Archival footage from our 2019 production of guest stars and alumni Melody Mennite and Lucien Postlewaite will be included.  The 2019 52-piece Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre Orchestra conducted by Music Director Pamela Martin will provide the sound score.

These unique times require creativity, and we are excited to be working on this project!  Our alumni are incredibly talented, dedicated people and this film will feature the contributions of several former SCBT dancers.

Ways to support our efforts will be posted on this site; crowdfunding opportunities will be available and will be necessary.  Thank you Santa Cruz for your support over all of these years!

Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre In Concert

Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre will present "Giselle" either in its entirety or in the form of excerpts.  There is no way to know yet when or how this will be presented.  To further our dancers' training, both technically and artistically, they will receive professional coaching of this time-honored romantic ballet.  Company dancers will also revisit last season's "Lavender" choreographed by Eva Stone.  Ms. Stone's work is deeply dark and visceral and is an excellent counterpoint to the traditional "Giselle."

The Ballet Alliance Festival

The Ballet Alliance has created a season-long series of events, dubbed Festival Mosaic.  The events will continue the growth of our dancers education and artistry.  They include a college dance program webinar, evaluations of our technique and training methods by a professional adjudicator panel, an Emerging Choreography Showcase - including mentoring and awards, and master classes for our companies.  Go to The Ballet Alliance website for updated information.

Emerging Choreographers Showcase

Traditionally our season closes with a rousing display of choreography by our young dancers.  In conjunction with The Studio, School of Classical Ballet Student Demonstration, this showcase is always an uplifting example of the bright future of choreography.  Date, time, location to be announced.
